Because of the 1383500100025 rather large capture cross section of Au198 1383500100026 (~30000 b), about 17% of the Au198 atoms capture 1383500100027 a neutron and form Au199 before decaying to Hg198. 1383500100028 These double neutron-capture events identified by 1383500100029 observing the relative intensities of gamma rays 1383500100030 for two values of the neutron flux (1E13 and 1383500100031 2E13 n/cm2/s). The intensities of the Au197 capture 1383500100032 events changed by a factor of two while the Au198 1383500100033 capture events changed by a factor of four. 1383500100034 2) Capture gamma rays in Hg200.
