Foil packets 1428000100014 were suspended on a network of thin aluminum rods at 1428000100015 angles of 0, 7.5, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 degrees. 1428000100016 METHOD (ACTIV,TOF,GSPEC) Activation rates were measured in 1428000100017 Fe foils at well-defined geometry in neutron fields 1428000100018 created by 113 and 256 MeV proton beams in thick Al 1428000100019 and U targets. The neutron spectra were independently 1428000100020 measured using time-of-flight spectrometry. Following 1428000100021 irradiations, the foil packets were retrieved and 1428000100022 individual foils were analyzed by gamma spectroscopy. 1428000100023 Comparison of these data sets provides integral 1428000100024 testing and some adjusting of the poorly known 1428000100025 activation cross sections at higher energies. 54Mn, 1428000100026 51Cr, 52Mn cross sections obtained by adjustment of 1428000100027 prior cross sections. 1428000100028 ANALYSIS The foil activation measurements were 1428000100029 converted to activation rates with suitable 1428000100030 corrections for gamma self-absorption and decay 1428000100031 during and after irradiation. We assume that 1428000100032 reactions that agree within 20% with integral testing 1428000100033 should not be adjusted. Considerable effort is 1428000100034 required to understand all sources of uncertainty, as 1428000100035 well as their covariances, and to accurately take 1428000100036 into account biases in the measurement techniques 1428000100037 produced by geometric differences between 1428000100038 time-of-flight and foil arrangements as well as 1428000100039 neutron scattering effects.
