It consists of 160 BaF2 scintillation crystals, 1436400100014 and each one has the same solid-angle coverage. The 1436400100015 calorimeter has inner radius of 17 cm and each 1436400100016 crystal has length of 15 cm. 1436400100017 (PPAC) Parallel plate avalanche counter was used to 1436400100018 detect fission fragments and tag the gamma rays from 1436400100019 fission. 1436400100020 METHOD (TOF) neutron energy determined by time of flight 1436400100021 method, measured by the time difference between the 1436400100022 beam pulse and the event detected by either DANCE or 1436400100023 PPAC. Two measurements were made using target with 1436400100024 total mass of 395 mu-g. In the second experiment target1436400100025 with total mass of 374 mu-g was inserted into PPAC, 1436400100026 which was used in an attempt to measure neutron-induced1436400100027 fission of 238Pu, which proved to be difficult. 1436400100028 INC-SOURCE (SPALL) Pulsed neutron beam was produced via 1436400100029 spallation on a natural W target by an 800-MeV proton 1436400100030 linear accelerator beam. The average proton beam 1436400100031 current at the spallation target was about 1 - 2 1436400100032 mu-A. The neutron beam structure contained 625 mu-s 1436400100033 long 'macropulses' driven by two of every three such 1436400100034 macropulses from the accelerator for an average rate 1436400100035 of 40/s. Each macropulse consisted of 'micropulses' 1436400100036 spaced every 1.8 mu-s, each <1 ns long. The pulsed 1436400100037 beam allowed incident neutron energies to be 1436400100038 determined using the time-of-flight technique. 1436400100039 SAMPLE 238Pu was fabricated at LLNL by using electroplating 1436400100040 cell. The target material was deposited over an area 1436400100041 of approx. 7 mm in diameter on both sides of the 1436400100042 titanium foil with a thickness of 3 mu-m. Sample 1436400100043 contained also 1436400100044 239Pu - 0.30% relative to 238Pu 1436400100045 240Pu - 0.34% relative to 238Pu 1436400100046 234U - (12.45+-0.11)% relative to 238Pu 1436400100047 234U is daughter nucleus of 238Pu 1436400100048 Two samples with total mass of 395 and 374 mu-g were 1436400100049 used 1436400100050 MONITOR (92-U-234(N,G),,ARE) 1436400100051 Absolute scale of the cross section was determined 1436400100052 according to the 234U resonance at 5.16 eV, with 1436400100053 integrated cross section between 4.91-5.38 eV 1436400100054 of 2640 beV 1436400100055 MONIT-REF (,M.B.Chadwick+,3,ENDF/B-VII.1,,2011) 1436400100056 ANALYSIS Gamma rays from capture and fission were measured 1436400100057 simultaneously.
