Total cross 1482500100017 sections were determined from the ratio of the number 1482500100018 of neutrons transmitted T through a sample N to the 1482500100019 number transmitted without a sample N0: T = N/N0 = 1482500100020 exp(-n*sigma), where sigma = neutron total cross 1482500100021 section(b), n = number of atoms per barn in the sample.1482500100022 ANALYSIS After correcting all spectra for dead-time losses, a 1482500100023 normalized background spectrum was subtracted from 1482500100024 both sample-in and sample-out data. A small residual 1482500100025 time-uncorrelated background, typically less than 1%, 1482500100026 of the counts in each energy bin was also subtracted. 1482500100027 Data for individual time channels used the difference 1482500100028 between neutron detection and the prompt-gamma-ray 1482500100029 signal to determine the neutron energy using 1482500100030 relativistic equations.
