The beam was pulsed at a repetition rate 2208200100011 of 2 MHz and with a pulse length of 2.8 ns FWHM. 2208200100012 INC-SOURCE (D-D) A deuterium gas target, made of stainless steel 2208200100013 of 1 cm diameter by 3 cm long, with a 5 microgram/cm2 2208200100014 thick Mo entrance window and a 1.5 mm thick Au beam 2208200100015 stop, produced neutrons of energies 11.0 and 13.0 MeV.2208200100016 METHOD (TOF) Time-of-flight with a flight path of 8 m. 2208200100017 DETECTOR (SCIN) The scattered neutrons were detected by an array2208200100018 of four NE 213 liquid scintillators, 20 cm diameter by2208200100019 35 cm thick, viewed by Pm-tubes at both ends. The 2208200100020 detectors were positioned on a goniometer table with 2208200100021 a massive paraffin shield, collimators and a 50 cm 2208200100022 long Cu shadow bar. The detectors had a bias level of 2208200100023 500 keV proton equivalent, and could be set in the 2208200100024 angular range 20 - 140 degrees. 2208200100025 (SCIN) Two NE 213 scintillators, 5 cm diameter by 1.27 2208200100026 cm thick, were used as source neutron monitors. 2208200100027 MONITOR (1-H-1(N,EL)1-H-1,,DA) 2208200100028 SAMPLE (3-LI-7,ENR=0.999) Metallic cylinder, enriched to 99.9%2208200100029 in 3-Li-7. It was encapsulated in a 0.3 mm thick SUS 2208200100030 container, 3.1 cm diameter and 4 cm high. An empty can 2208200100031 was used for background measurements. A polyethylene 2208200100032 and a carbon sample, 1.1 cm diameter by 5 cm high, were2208200100033 used to determine the detection efficiency.
