The target 2212500100016 was backed by a 4 cm diameter silver sheet of 0.3 mm 2212500100017 thickness, fixed in an aluminium tube of 1 mm wall 2212500100018 thickness. The silver sheet was cooled by a thin 2212500100019 water film. 2212500100020 METHOD (ACTIV) The samples were activated in different 2212500100021 angular positions with respect to the beam direction. 2212500100022 In this way the neutron energy variation with angle 2212500100023 from the source reaction could be used for the 2212500100024 excitation function measurement. 2212500100025 DETECTOR (LONGC) The neutron source intensity was monitored 2212500100026 with a directional long counter 2212500100027 (TELES,SOLST) A proton recoil telescope was used for 2212500100028 absolute determination of the neutron fluence. 2212500100029 (GELI) A a calibrated 35 cm3 GeLi detector was used to 2212500100030 determine the activity of the samples. 2212500100031 MONITOR (1-H-1(N,EL)1-H-1,,DA) A proton recoil telescope, 2212500100032 positioned at an angle of 16 degr. relative to the 2212500100033 deuteron beam direction and at a source to radiator 2212500100034 distance of 80 cm, was used for the absolute fluence 2212500100035 determination. The fluence at other angles was 2212500100036 determined by using the known angular distribution of 2212500100037 the source reaction. The fluence rates averaged over 2212500100038 the sample volumes were in the range 0.6 to 1.8E+6 2212500100039 neutrons/cm2/sec. 2212500100040 In addition, the activities from the 13-Al-27(n,alpha)2212500100041 reaction in the aluminium foils were detected with 2212500100042 gamma-ray spectroscopy using the same equipment as 2212500100043 for the activity measurements for the molybdenum 2212500100044 sheets. 2212500100045 SAMPLE The metallic samples were 2 cm diameter by 0.5 cm 2212500100046 thick discs made of 99.8% pure molybdenum in 2212500100047 its natural isotopic composition. 15 samples, each 2212500100048 sandwiched between two 2 cm diameter by 0.1 cm thick 2212500100049 aluminium sheets, were suspended from a graduated ring2212500100050 adjusted with its center above the neutron source. 2212500100051 The samples were arranged symmetrically to the beam 2212500100052 direction with a source to middle-plane-sample 2212500100053 distance of 8.29 cm. 2212500100054 CORRECTION The neutron fluence measurements with the recoil 2212500100055 telescope were corrected for distortions by the target2212500100056 assembly.
