The competing beta decay channel of 238-Np2217900100053 (t1/2 = 2.117 days) results in parasitic fission 2217900100054 activity from 238-Pu + n and 239-Pu + n, and to keep 2217900100055 the activity from these Pu channels below 5% of the 2217900100056 239-Np fission activity the 237-Np target had to be 2217900100057 changed every week; in total 10 fresh target were used2217900100058 in the experiment. 2217900100059 CORRECTION Changes in target properties owing to high flux and 2217900100060 fission activity are accounted for by two empirical 2217900100061 corrections as a function of time determined by 2217900100062 observation of prominent A/q lines.
