For neutrons with 3277100100024 energy of 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 MeV, the energies were 3277100100025 0.21, 0.19 and 0.16 MeV, respectively. 3277100100026 DETECTOR (IOCH) A twin gridded ionization chamber (GIC) was 3277100100027 used as the charged particle detector with forward 3277100100028 and backward asymmetrical sections. 3277100100029 (BF3) The BF3 counter was used as the neutron flux 3277100100030 monitor. 3277100100031 SAMPLE (5-B-10,ENR=0.940) The 10B sample consists of four 3277100100032 components: the 10B deposit, the aluminum-film 3277100100033 backing as the substrate of 10B deposit, the tantalum 3277100100034 frame bearing the aluminum backing, and the aluminum 3277100100035 washer to fix and flatten the tantalum frame. In 3277100100036 addition to the 10B sample, a thin-film background 3277100100037 sample was also prepared without the 10B deposits on 3277100100038 the aluminum backing which was used for the 3277100100039 background measurement. 3277100100040 (3-LI-6,ENR=0.90) The reference 6LiF sample was also 3277100100041 prepared and the lithium fluoride was evaporated onto 3277100100042 a tantalum-foil backing (48.0 mm x 0.1 mm) without 3277100100043 holes. 3277100100044 The number of 10B atoms was determined by the relative 3277100100045 comparison method using the thermal neutron induced 3277100100046 10B(nth,a)7Li and 6Li(nth,t)4He reactions with a 6LiF 3277100100047 sample as the reference. 3277100100048 (92-U-238,ENR=0.99997) The mass and the diameter of 3277100100049 the 238U sample were 493.6 ug/cm2 and 4.50 cm. 3277100100050 ANALYSIS Cross sections of the 10B(n,t2a) and 10B(n,a)7Li 3277100100051 reactions were calculated using the event counts from 3277100100052 the spectrum unfolding method and the residual 3277100100053 method. The residual method was taken as the final 3277100100054 results since the event counts obtained by the 3277100100055 residual method are more accurate.
