C026300100018 DETECTOR (GELI) C026300100019 METHOD (EXTB,GSPEC) Seven separate irradiations were C026300100020 performed ranging in duration from 1 to 8 h with 12C C026300100021 beam. The beam intensity varied between 5 x 10**8 and C026300100022 10**10 ions per minute. The beam spot was usually C026300100023 close to circular in shape with a diameter of 1-2 cm. C026300100024 The target stack, which had dimensions of 5 x 5 cm2, C026300100025 was positioned so that the beam passed through the C026300100026 center. Following the irradiations the silver foils C026300100027 were assayed with calibrated Ge (Li), gamma-ray C026300100028 spectrometers. Measurements were performed at both C026300100029 LBL and Purdue, commencing in some cases between 8 C026300100030 and 13 min after the end of bombardment and C026300100031 continuing in others for as long as 1.5 yrs. The 300 C026300100032 GeV proton irradiations were performed in an external C026300100033 beam line at Fermilab. Every effort was made to match C026300100034 as closely as possible the conditions of the 12C C026300100035 experiments. The target stacks were thus identical to C026300100036 those described above. The samples were assayed with C026300100037 the same or comparable Ge(Li) spectrometers at C026300100038 similar sample-detector distances. The activities of C026300100039 short-lived nuclides were determined at Fermilab, and C026300100040 counting commenced about 15 min after the end of C026300100041 bombardment. Longer-lived nuclides were assayed at C026300100042 Purdue for periods ranging up to one year after C026300100043 bombardment.
