A scintillation counter, was set to count C102100100014 elastically scattered protons from the target at the C102100100015 fixed angle of 45 degrees, was used as an additional C102100100016 check on the normalization of the points in the C102100100017 angular distributions and was used to normalize the C102100100018 data taken at angles smaller than 15 degrees, for C102100100019 which Faraday cap had to be removed. C102100100020 ANALYSIS Transformation of the raw data to corrected energy C102100100021 spectra was accomplished with the aid of the CONDAC C102100100022 program and an IBM 7090 computer. The energy scale in C102100100023 the processed data depends on the incident energy, C102100100024 and on the effective absorber between the target and C102100100025 the E counter, which is not known precisely. In the C102100100026 plotted spectra, the beam energy was assumed to be C102100100027 22.3 MeV and the effective absorber was determined by C102100100028 setting Q=0 for the elastic scattering and Q=-9.0 MeV C102100100029 for the ground-state deuteron group from C102100100030 56Fe(p,d)55Fe. When the 0.004-in. solid state dE/dx C102100100031 counter is used, the effective absorber thickness is C102100100032 33 mg/cm2 (aluminum equivalent) plus one-half of the C102100100033 target thickness. C102100100034 COMMENT Compiler's comment: C102100100035 While authors speak consistently of scattering and C102100100036 (p,d) reactions, compiler believes that actually no C102100100037 corrections were made for other reactions with outgoingC102100100038 protons or deuterons, respectively, such as (p,np), C102100100039 (p,2p) or (p,dp), (p,dn). Therefore the 'scattering' C102100100040 data were compiled as proton production, and the C102100100041 '(p,d)' data were compiled as deuteron production C102100100042 data. (N.O.)
