C109200100016 (GELI) for gamma counting C109200100017 SAMPLE Targets of UO4x2H20 and ThO2 were prepared by making C109200100018 slurries of the compounds with an ethyl acetate Duco C109200100019 cement solution and allowing them to settle in a C109200100020 filter chimney onto an aluminum backing foil. Bismuth C109200100021 targets were made evaporating the metal in a vacuum C109200100022 onto the backing foil. The targets had a surface C109200100023 density of about 10 mg/cm2 on an aluminum backing C109200100024 foil with a surface density of 6.8 mg/cm2. The target C109200100025 was covered with an identical aluminum foil. C109200100026 METHOD (EXTB,GSPEC,BSPEC) The number of beam particles C109200100027 through the target was determined for each run by use C109200100028 of 99Mo as an internal monitor. For the first few C109200100029 experiments molybdenum was chemically separated, and C109200100030 the 99Mo was determined by beta-counting. However, in C109200100031 most of the experiments 99Mo was determined by C109200100032 gamma-counting without prior chemical processing. C109200100033 Absolute cross sections for the 99Mo yield from tau- C109200100034 and alpha-induced fission were measured for each of C109200100035 the targets and energies used here. The cross C109200100036 sections for 99Mo were determined in separate C109200100037 experiments from targets irradiated with measured C109200100038 amounts of beam.
