Detectors used in this experiment were C109300100014 250-300 mm2 in area, biased to a depletion depth of C109300100015 100-200 microm. C109300100016 METHOD (TOF) Reactions involving the emission of heavy ions C109300100017 leading to low-lying states of the residual nucleus C109300100018 have been studied using 42 MeV alpha-particles C109300100019 incident on light target nuclei. The heavy ions C109300100020 resulting from these reactions were identified by C109300100021 mass number using the time-of-flight technique. C109300100022 Because of the narrow temporal width of the cyclotron C109300100023 beam burst (<1.5 ns FWHM) and the long flight path C109300100024 of 0.72 m the mass resolution of the time-of-flight C109300100025 system was good enough to separate masses 14 and 15. C109300100026 Thus for these reactions one is able to measure C109300100027 simultaneously angular distributions in both forward C109300100028 and backward hemispheres by detection of a C109300100029 particular heavy ion or its heavier complementary C109300100030 product at forward lab angles. In addition partial C109300100031 angular distributions leading to products in which C109300100032 one of the heavy-ion products is in a C109300100033 particle-unstable excited state have been measured. C109300100034 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) An uncertainty is estimated for the C109300100035 magnitude of the cross sections, due mainly to the C109300100036 uncertainties in the 4He scattering data used to C109300100037 estimate the target thickness.
