C147100100008 #doi:10.1016/j.nimb.2004.10.083 C147100100009 INSTITUTE (1USABNW) C147100100010 FACILITY (VDGT,1USABNW) a 3.0 MV electrostatic tandem C147100100011 accelerator located within the Environmental C147100100012 Molecular Sciences Laboratory at Pacific Northwest C147100100013 National Laboratory. C147100100014 INC-SOURCE The incident beam conditioner was a Goebel mirror C147100100015 with a 1/32 degree divergence slit. The beam height C147100100016 using this combination was about 0.08 mm and C147100100017 equatorial divergence was about 0.01 degree. C147100100018 SAMPLE The sample used in this study was a thin amorphous C147100100019 carbon film (5.8 microg/cm2) on a silicate glass C147100100020 substrate. The sample was examined by X-ray C147100100021 reflectivity (XRR) using a Philips XPert MPD system C147100100022 (PW3040/00 type) equipped with a Cu X-ray source C147100100023 operated at 1.8 kW. C147100100024 DETECTOR (SIBAR) Both fixed and movable surface-barrier C147100100025 detectors in the chamber with an energy resolution of C147100100026 about 15 keV for MeV protons and about 20 keV for MeV C147100100027 He+ ions. C147100100028 METHOD Several experiments were performed in this study to C147100100029 determine the excitation curves of (p,p), (d,p) and C147100100030 (alpha, alpha) reactions/scatterings for 12C. The C147100100031 measurement for the excitation curve was carried out C147100100032 at a reaction or scattering angle of 150 degrees over C147100100033 a range of ion energy with small energy increments, C147100100034 typically of 4 to 5 keV. For each spectrum, the C147100100035 accumulated charge varied from 5 to 10 microC for C147100100036 good spectrum statistics. In addition, an angular C147100100037 distribution for the reaction 12C(d,p)13C at C147100100038 deuterium ion energy Ed=0.94 MeV was also determined C147100100039 with steps of 2 degrees over the reaction angles C147100100040 ranging from 100 to 170 degrees. C147100100041 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) The total experimental error for the cross C147100100042 section data was estimated to be of the order of 4%. C147100100043 COMMENT After the publication, authors noticed that the C147100100044 energy shifts of the resonant peaks were primarily C147100100045 due to an inaccurate voltage calibration for the C147100100046 accelerator system they used. Following a careful C147100100047 examination and thorough analysis, this shift has C147100100048 been determined, and revised data sets were published C147100100049 in the erratum.
