The C148200100012 oxides were reduced by heating with lanthanum metal inC148200100013 vacuum, and the samarium metal was simultaneously C148200100014 vacuum-evaporated onto carbon foils. For the 149Sm C148200100015 target the carbon foil had a thickness of about C148200100016 20 microg/cm2, but for greater safety the radioactive C148200100017 151Sm was collected on a thicker foil of about C148200100018 50 microg/cm2.The isotopic composition of the 149Sm C148200100019 sample, as stated by the supplier, was 97.72% 149Sm, C148200100020 0.77% 148Sm, 0.55% 150Sm, 0.38% 152Sm, 0.37% 147Sm, C148200100021 and 0.17% 154Sm. The original 151Sm2O3 sample was C148200100022 reported to have 93.11% 151Sm, 3.09% 150Sm, 2.39% C148200100023 152Sm, 0.937% 147Sm, and 0.263% 154Sm. However, by theC148200100024 time the (t,p) measurements were made some of the C148200100025 original 151Sm would have decayed to 151Eu, leaving anC148200100026 estimated 86.5% abundance of 151Sm in the target.
