This "beam-off" experiment C196100100015 resulted in a high yield-to-background ratio, and C196100100016 contributions to the yield from target backing, C196100100017 target contaminants, and competing reactions were C196100100018 almost completely eliminated. The superallowed, C196100100019 0+(beta+)0+, excitation curve was determined by C196100100020 direct detection of the positrons, from the 34Cl C196100100021 ground-state decay in a 5.0x5.0-cm plastic C196100100022 scintillator (NE 102). The relative total cross C196100100023 section was normalized to an absolute scale by C196100100024 measuring the absolute cross section at several points C196100100025 on the curve. C196100100026 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-T) Errors in the absolute values of the cross C196100100027 sections were estimated to be +-10% for the excitation C196100100028 curves obtained by measurement of the superallowed C196100100029 decay and +-14% for the allowed decay. The major C196100100030 contribution to these errors was the uncertainty in C196100100031 target density, with an additional error due to C196100100032 uncertainties in the determination of the Ge(Li) C196100100033 detector efficiency for the allowed decay.
