C207700100011 PART-DET (A,P) C207700100012 DETECTOR (SIBAR) C207700100013 METHOD The scattered alpha-particles were detected in a 700 C207700100014 microm silicon detector which subtended a solid angle C207700100015 of 2.18 msr and had an angular acceptance of 3 degree C207700100016 in the reaction plane. The detector was thick enough C207700100017 to stop protons from the reaction 12C(alpha,p)15N, C207700100018 which were separated from the alpha-particles of C207700100019 interest. In order to detect the alpha-particles at C207700100020 forward angles in the presence of recoil 12C nuclei, C207700100021 calibrated nickel foil absorbers were inserted in C207700100022 front of the detector. The target thickness was C207700100023 obtained by comparing the inelastic scattering of the C207700100024 alpha-particles from the 4.43 state in l2C with the C207700100025 cross section of Morgan and Hobbie at 19 MeV, and is C207700100026 uncertain to 10 %. This target thickness corresponds C207700100027 to an energy loss of 100 keV for 12 MeV C207700100028 alpha-particles. C207700100029 ANALYSIS (INTAD) Angular distribution was fitted with Legendre C207700100030 polynomials and then integrated cs was obtained by C207700100031 Sig = 4Pi * A0.
