C213200100018 SAMPLE Polyethylene (CH2)n target with thickness of 9.6 mg/cm2C213200100019 DETECTOR (MCPLT) Two microchannel plate detection systems, C213200100020 10cm and 60cm upstream of target, determined the C213200100021 positions and angles of the incoming projectile on C213200100022 the target C213200100023 (TELES,SISD,SISD,SCIN) Sixteen telescopes of the High C213200100024 Resolution Array HiRA measured the energies and C213200100025 angles of the deuterons. Telescopes were located 35 C213200100026 cm from the target and covered polar angles of 4deg - C213200100027 45deg in the laboratory frame. Each telescope C213200100028 contained one 65 mu-m thick dE and one 1500 mu-m C213200100029 thick E silicon strip detector that were backed by C213200100030 four 3.9cm thick CsI(Tl) crystals. C213200100031 (MAGSP) The HiRA, MCP and reaction targets were C213200100032 placed in a scattering chamber in front of the S800 C213200100033 spectrometer, which detected the 55Ni residues. C213200100034 METHOD (EDE,COINC) Coincidence between 55Ni residues and C213200100035 deuterons was required. C213200100036 INC-SOURCE Secondary 56Ni beam was produced by fragmentation of C213200100037 140 MeV/A primary beam of 58Ni on a 1269 mg/cm2 C213200100038 beryllium production target. The A1900 fragment C213200100039 separator filtered 56Ni nuclei from the resulting C213200100040 fragmentation products to a purity of 72% and C213200100041 degraded their energies to 37 MeV/nucleon.
