At 160 MeV incident energy C218000100024 this corresponds to a range of transferred momentum q C218000100025 of 50 to 1000 MeV/c. Beam currents of up to 200 nA C218000100026 were used, except at forward angles where the beam C218000100027 intensity had to be reduced in order to keep the dead C218000100028 time of the data acquisition system below 10%. C218000100029 Contributions from accidental coincidences to the C218000100030 background under the peak of interest were C218000100031 non-negligible only at the smallest and largest C218000100032 angles. However, since the cross section for C218000100033 inelastic scattering to the final 2+ state at C218000100034 backward angles is considerably larger than for C218000100035 elastic scattering, background contributions were C218000100036 much less severe for the inelastic case. C218000100037 CORRECTION Small corrections (1-2%) were applied to the data, C218000100038 taking into account the finite acceptance angle of C218000100039 the spectrograph, which varied between delta theta C218000100040 +-0.52 and +-0.97 degrees. C218000100041 LEVEL-PROP (6-C-12,E-LVL=4.44,SPIN=2.,PARITY=+1.) C218000100042 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR,5.,10.) The quoted uncertainties of the C218000100043 measurements were obtained by combining the C218000100044 statistical errors with (i) an uncertainty of the C218000100045 cross section due to the background subtraction C218000100046 (estimated to be 4% for intermediate angles and 8% C218000100047 for both extreme forward and backward angles), and C218000100048 (ii) an inaccuracy of 0.05 degree in the angle C218000100049 setting of the spectrograph resulting in a small C218000100050 contribution to the error of both sigma and A. An C218000100051 overall normalization error of the cross sections of C218000100052 5-10% was deduced by comparing overlapping data C218000100053 points measured with different target thicknesses.
