One was prepared D006400100009 by vacuum evaporation of 99.99% pure Co from a D006400100010 previously outgassed tungsten boat onto a backing D006400100011 of gold, 0.12 mm thick, which had previously been D006400100012 etched in aqua regia, rinsed in doubly de-ionised D006400100013 water, and outgassed under vacuum. D006400100014 The target thickness was determined by alpha-particle D006400100015 back-scattering techniques. The adopted target D006400100016 thickness was (1.18+-0.06)x10**18 Co atoms/cm2. D006400100017 The transmission target was prepared by a similar D006400100018 evaporation of 99.99% pure Co onto a clean glass slide D006400100019 onto which a layer of 99.999% pure caesium bromide had D006400100020 been deposited by evaporation from an outgassed D006400100021 tungsten boat.
