The decrease in pressure is due to the D012600100013 pumping effect (gettering) of the chemically active, D012600100014 freshly evaporated Ti film. After 15 min a suitable D012600100015 (non-stoichiometric) titanium-oxide layer was formed D012600100016 on the carbon backing.
