D063700100010 SAMPLE The target material was prepared by burning tungsten D063700100011 filament in an atmosphere of oxygen enriched in 180. D063700100012 The oxide was then vacuum deposited onto about D063700100013 10 mu-g/cm2 thick carbon foil and the target was D063700100014 placed at the center of the Oxford multichannel D063700100015 magnetic spectrograph. D063700100016 DETECTOR (PLATE)The reaction products were momentum analyzed D063700100017 under a magnetic field of strength 10.83 kHz and D063700100018 recorded simultaneously in Ilford L4 plates 25 mu-m D063700100019 thick over the angles 11.25-86.25 degr. in steps of D063700100020 7.5 degr. Particles other than protons were stopped in D063700100021 approximately 0.34-mm-thick Mylar foil placed on top D063700100022 of each plate. The total beam charge was 3530 mu-C. D063700100023 The plates were scanned at the Nuclear Physics D063700100024 Laboratory of the University of Dhaka, Dhaka and the D063700100025 energy spectrum is obtained at each angle. D063700100026 MONITOR (8-O-18(HE3,EL)8-O-18,,DA) D063700100027 (8-O-16(HE3,EL)8-O-16,,DA) The target gas used in this D063700100028 experiment was an old sample and the abundance of 18O D063700100029 in the gas was rather uncertain. To obtain the D063700100030 absolute cross section scale, subsidiary short D063700100031 exposures were taken on the elastic scattering of 6 D063700100032 MeV 3He particles from the same target as used in the D063700100033 main experiment. The yields of the elastic groups from D063700100034 16,18O at 78.75 and 86.25 degr. (lab.system) were D063700100035 measured and were assumed to be in the ratio of the D063700100036 abundances of the two isotopes. The yields of the D063700100037 levels leading to 18F at E-x =0.0, 0.937, and 1.120 MeVD063700100038 arising from the (3He,p) reaction on 160 in the D063700100039 main experiment were measured at several angles. The D063700100040 absolute cross sections for these levels are already D063700100041 known from a previous experiment at the same beam D063700100042 energy. Hence the absolute cross section was obtained D063700100043 for the 18O(3He,p)20F reaction.
