Another surface-barrier detector having a D607400100024 solid angle of 0.20 msr was mounted at 16. degr. for D607400100025 normalization with Rutherford scattering events. The D607400100026 telescopes were energy calibrated using D607400100027 alpha-particles from a 228,229Th source and with 7Li D607400100028 ions elastically scattered off a thin 197Au (209Bi in D607400100029 the second set) target. D607400100030 (BGO) Fourteen BGO detectors were mounted on top and D607400100031 bottom of the reaction plane in two close-packed groupsD607400100032 of seven each. The two groups were placed at a distanceD607400100033 of ~2.5 cm on either side of the reaction plane. D607400100034 The middle detector in each group was pulled out to D607400100035 nearly equalize the efficiency of all the detectors.
