The target was placed D608100100018 in a specially designed scattering chamber. It consistsD608100100019 of two concentric stainless steel cylinders insulated D608100100020 from each other. The 25 mm diameter inner cylinder D608100100021 has the provision of holding the experimental target D608100100022 at one of its ends. D608100100023 At TIFR, a self-supporting target of natural Mg D608100100024 (1.24 +- 0.05 mg/cm2) was put at the centre of an D608100100025 80 mm diameter reaction chamber D608100100026 DETECTOR (HPGE) At IOP the gamma-rays produced during the D608100100027 bombardment were detected by an HPGe detector of D608100100028 ~60 cm**3 volume, placed at 55. degr. with target to D608100100029 detector distance ~6.5 cm. Both on-line and off-line D608100100030 spectra were taken for each exposure. The off-line D608100100031 spectra enabled us to identify the normal background D608100100032 gamma-ray lines or the activity lines arising due to D608100100033 beam bombardments. D608100100034 (COMPL) At TIAR the characteristic gamma -rays emitted D608100100035 by the fusion evaporation residues were detected with D608100100036 a Compton suppressed clover detector placed at 55.degr.D608100100037 with a target-to-detector distance ~12 cm D608100100038 METHOD (GSPEC,BCINT)Measurement of fusion cross sections for D608100100039 the 6,7Li + 24Mg reactions by the characteristic gamma D608100100040 ray method has been done at energies from below to wellD608100100041 above the respective Coulomb barriers.
