F075600100004 AUTHOR (C.Spitaleri,M.Aliotta,S.Cherubini,M.Lattuada, F075600100005 Dj.Miljanic,S.Romano,N.Soic,M.Zadro,R.A.Zappala) F075600100006 INSTITUTE (2ITYCAT,2ITYLNS,2BLGLVN,3CRORBZ) F075600100007 REFERENCE (J,PR/C,60,055802,1999) F075600100008 FACILITY (VDGT,2ITYLNS) F075600100009 INC-SOURCE 7Li-ion beam at intensities up to 70 nA. F075600100010 The energy spreading of the beam was about F075600100011 10**(-4)and the spot on target, after collimation, had a F075600100012 diameter of ~1.5 mm. F075600100013 DETECTOR (SI)A silicon dE-E detector placed at a distance F075600100014 d=50.5 cm from the target and at 18.5 degr.with F075600100015 respect to the beam axis was used to detect the F075600100016 elastically scattered particles, thus allowing for a F075600100017 continuous monitoring of the target thickness during F075600100018 the measurement. F075600100019 (PS)Detection of the outgoing alpha particles has F075600100020 therefore been performed by using six (50*10)mm F075600100021 silicon position sensitive detectors (PSD),three at F075600100022 each side of the beam axis.Detectors have been centeredF075600100023 at fixed angles 44,34,23,45,55 and 65 degr., F075600100024 respectively, for the PSD1,PSD2,PSD3,PSD4,PSD5,and PSD6;F075600100025 the monitor was fixed at 18 degr. Detectors PSD1 F075600100026 and PSD4 were placed at a distance d=70 cm so as F075600100027 to compare the data taken from this experiment with F075600100028 those of the previous experiment. All other detectors F075600100029 were placed closer to the target in order to increase F075600100030 their solid angles, which then rose from ~1 msr (of F075600100031 detectors PSD1 and PSD4) to ~2.5 msr for detectors PSD2F075600100032 PSD3,PSD5, and PSD6. Coincidences were carried out F075600100033 between each pair of PSD's placed on opposite side of F075600100034 the beam direction. F075600100035 Energy calibration was performed by means of a standardF075600100036 three-peak alpha source at energies of 5.155, 5.484, F075600100037 and 5.806 MeV. At higher energies the elastic F075600100038 scattering of 7Li on CD2 and Au targets was employed atF075600100039 beam energies of about 15, 20, and 25 MeV. F075600100040 SAMPLE A deuterated polyethylene target was placed at 10 degr.F075600100041 with respect to the beam. During the experiment four F075600100042 different targets had to be used because of F075600100043 deterioration problems; their thicknesses were F075600100044 determined using an Am source.
