A single counter mounted on the lower F109200100014 rotatable plate of the chamber was used as a monitor F109200100015 in the angular distribution measurements. F109200100016 SAMPLE The targets were self-supporting carbon films prepared F109200100017 by vacuum evaporation of spectroscopically pure carbon.F109200100018 Their thickness was of the order of 20 mu-g/cm2. F109200100019 CORRECTION *by Authors* A small build-up of carbon on the target F109200100020 was observed during the measurements. It amounted to a F109200100021 few mu-g/cm2 per day. In order to correct for this F109200100022 effect and to ensure reproducibility of the results in F109200100023 the excitation function, checks were made at a fixed F109200100024 energy every five runs. Measurements were taken at F109200100025 50 keV intervals. As a further check on the F109200100026 reproducibility of the results the points were taken F109200100027 every 100 keV, as the energy was being raised and the F109200100028 intermediate points were taken as the energy was F109200100029 lowered.
