The F116900100009 evaporation rate from the target was about 10 cm3 of F116900100010 liquid hydrogen per hour when most of the ortho- F116900100011 parahydrogen conversion had taken place. F116900100012 DETECTOR (TELES) A triple coincidence range telescope was used F116900100013 to detect the scattered protons and the telescope F116900100014 absorber was changed in order to maintain constant F116900100015 efficiency of detection for the different scattering F116900100016 angles. The counter telescope was mounted on an arm F116900100017 which could be swung from side to side of the beam F116900100018 direction and whose pivot was carefully set in the F116900100019 centre of the collimated beam. F116900100020 CORRECTION To obtain the true efficiency for any scattering F116900100021 angle a small correction was added to the measured F116900100022 value for those protons which were lost before being F116900100023 detected by the telescope. This correction was F116900100024 slightly energy sensitive amounting to 0.2% at 10 degr.F116900100025 and 0.6% at 40 degrees for the 98 MeV determination.
